Male Nude with Towel

This piece, "Male Nude with Towel,"was on exhibit at the State of  the Art Gallery in Ithaca New York in December of 2009.  This was my first entry in a juried show (and my first nude!)   I am delighted to have been selected to participate.  This watercolor, done from a photograph, was begun in a class with well known watercolorist John Cody and completed over the summer of 2009.  Artists often ask how the background was attained.  First I drew in the entire figure, then covered it with masking fluid.  The background was then given several layers of different color washes.  The last wash was covered with "Glad Press and Seal" plastic wrap at the top, and table salt at the bottom.  It was then covered with a heavy object and left several hours to dry.  Enjoy.  Comments welcome!  11x14 matted and framed to 16x20  $300.00

  1. This is excellent, the background and the subject complement well each other, the skin color is real life like! Useful info on the technique! Thanks.

  3. The skin is what jumped out at me. And the background is a perfect compliment. I love to hear what artists go through to complete a work. It's not just smoke and mirrors!
