Yesterday I attended the Upstate NY Conference of SCBWI (the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.) A highlight of the day was meeting artist/illustrator Elizabeth Zunon and learning about her unique, multi-media approach. Beautiful!

SOS Tompkins Award

I got a grant!! I'm the grateful recipient of an SOS Tompkins Grant (Special Opportunities Stipend) to attend the annual winter conference of the Society of Childrens Book Writers and Illustrators in Manhattan this February. This is a grant program of the Community Arts Partnership, Tompkins County's Arts Council (CAP).
Thank you to all the judges who reviewed applications, and to my colleagues Camille Doucet and Jana Bouc as well as CAP Program Director Robin Schwartz who each gave valuable feedback and assistance during the application process.

Catie at the playground
Just started a new painting for the children's book, "Catie the Catapillar." I had a lot of fun with the background, especially the cloudy sky behind Catie, (upper left) which ominously reflects her loneliness in this scene.
